Unfortunately in 2002 the reputation of the Scheme became a little tarnished in the Balearics due to the number of bogus certificates being issued. The RYA became so worried that James Stevens (Cruising Manager) and Penny Haire (Chief Cruising Instructor at the time) both visited the Island to discuss the qualifications necessary for the individuals carrying out the instruction and the penalties for not complying with these requirements. As a result of what had been happening it became obvious that it was time to launch a new RYA recognised school that would maintain the high standard that had become synonymous with the RYA. At a meeting between the RYA and Steve Wickenden of Fairline South Mallorca, it was agreed to launch a new motor cruising school. The school would be open all year round with a state of the art classroom in the Fairline South Mallorca's offices in Santa Ponsa. The responsibility for the School and for the motor cruisers falls to the Managing Director and Principle, Steve Wickenden
